'PocketForest' - Northcoders Final Showcase Project
For our final project before graduation, we were asked to really challenge ourselves by 'spiking' new tech and utilising it in our full stack application. For the full tech stack, see the repo.

Several different app concepts were initially pitched within our team of 5. We wanted to create something that would help people connect with nature, so we built an app that allows users to 'collect' trees in their area. Once they login, they get a map of their position with custom markers showing the location of the user and certain trees they can collect.
A friendly fox provides helpful tips, such as how far away they are from a tree they've tapped, then prompts the user to take a pic of the tree once they're close enough. This opens up the phone's camera and allows them to snap the tree. If the location and species are a match with the tree in the database, the fox congratulates the user and adds the tree to their pocket forest, where they can view more information about the trees they've collected.
This project was incredibly challenging but fun to work on, and pushed our team beyond what we thought we could achieve. I am immensely proud of what we accomplished together.
I recommend viewing our presentation video for a clearer idea of everything involved. You can also view the github repo.
Sadly, whilst we did manage to deliver our MVP on deadline, the app is no longer functional. For posterity, I have still kept a record of both the Presentation and the Code for the App itself.

I am open to appropriate full-time roles in North West UK and am happy to discuss this further.
I do not currently have time in my schedule for additional freelance work, but please send me a message if you have a project idea you'd like me to consider.
